Abortion access will be written into Arizona law after voters pass Proposition 139

PHOENIX (AZFamille) — Now that it is a state constitutional law, what happens next is pretty straightforward when it comes to Proposition 139 and access to abortion.

Even though it was approved by votersit still must go through the state consultation process, like all other proposals and race results.

Once that process is complete, it will be sent to the Secretary of State’s office, which will conduct another investigation until Nov. 25, when the governor will officially certify the results.

But with voter approval, no one and nothing can stop access to abortion in Arizona.

ACLU Arizona Victoria Lopez said it’s normal for legal action to follow a proposal like this.

“There are over 40 restrictions in our laws that affect access to abortion, and therefore whether through legislative action or through litigation or other types of advocacy at the executive level or regulatory, we will have to evaluate each of those restrictions and laws, and see if it complies with our restrictions and laws and see if it complies or violates the new state constitutional amendment,” Lopez said.

She emphasized now that it is a constitutional law, that everyone has the right to know that they have access to abortion under Proposition 139.
