Grissom High School JROTC honors veterans with special ceremony

HUNTSVILLE, AlabamaWAF) – Madison County area veterans were recognized Friday afternoon at Grissom High School.

The high school’s JROTC organization honored three veterans ahead of Veterans Day on November 11.

Retired Grissom Army Senior Instructor. Command Sgt. Major Cedric Moore said the congregation should honor those who served with a moving tribute.

“Less than 1 percent of the population of the United States of America serves in the military in any capacity,” Moore said. “People don’t understand the sacrifices they make.”

Moore said he and his students have greatly influenced veterans and the community as a whole.

“They asked if they could feed the homeless, they asked if they could visit veterans in nursing homes, they asked if they could collect items for children in foster care. shelter, for battered and abused women,” Moore said. “And I have the privilege and honor to have an impact and an influence.”

JROTC student Jazlyn Colindres said this annual event aims to recognize veterans who often don’t receive enough recognition.

“One thing for JROTC is we continually try to improve our Veterans Day program, increase the amount of gratitude and recognition that we give to our veterans,” Colindres said.
