Donald J. Trump, the future forty-seventh president

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – Now we come to “the former and future president” – Donald J. Trump.

Just before leaving Office in 2021 – Trump returned to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, and the outgoing president discussed a future political campaign.

After his presidency, Trump paid particular attention to the policies of his successorissuing strong criticism.

In August 2022, the FBI raided Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago. Armed agents entered the complex to seize documents the former president allegedly brought with him as he left office.

This later became the basis of the classified documents case against him.

Following the 2022 midterm elections, former President Trump announced that he would seek the presidency for a third time.

After this announcement, in 2023, Trump was criminally charged in four cases. First, he was charged with falsifying business records in New York State. He pleaded not guilty to all 34 counts, but after a month-long trial, a Manhattan jury returned a guilty verdict on each count.

At the time of writing, the appeal process is currently underway.

The second was the classified documents case, which was later dismissed by the U.S. District Court in Florida.

In the third case against him, Trump was accused of claiming fraud affected the outcome of the 2020 election and was further accused of wrongdoing in connection with the events of January 6, 2021.

In 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that a president, while in office, has immunity for any official acts. This decision stopped the progress of this case.

The fourth was the Georgia state case, in which Trump and 18 co-defendants allegedly attempted to interfere with the certification of the state’s 2020 election results. This case led to his incarceration in the Fulton County Jail and this now famous mugshot.

In all cases brought against him, Donald Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

These cases served as the basis for the campaign to remove Trump’s name from primary ballots in several states.

However, in March 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump could remain on all ballots.

In the primary process, Trump fended off a dozen challengers and won enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination. When President Biden did the same for Democrats, an electoral rematch seemed inevitable.

The two men debated in June, after which President Biden faced increasing pressure from his own party to withdraw from the race.

While Biden’s campaign was in turmoil, Trump continued to campaign.

On July 13, Trump began speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when an assassination attempter opened fire. Trump was hit in the ear. After being hit, Trump fell to avoid further injury.

Three other people were shot, including one killed.

In a firefight, the Secret Service killed the attempted assassin.

The former president was removed from the area and taken for treatment. During this process, Trump stood up and pumped his fist in the air, signaling to everyone that he had survived.

The assassination attempt galvanized his support as he headed to the Republican National Convention, where he was formally nominated for the third time.

Shortly after the Convention, President Biden announced that he was withdrawing from the 2024 race and supporting Kamala Harris for his party’s nomination.

Now facing a new adversary, Trump and Harris debated in September.

Later that month, Trump was the target of a second assassination attempt at his Florida golf course. The Secret Service confronted the alleged assassination attempt and, following a manhunt, the suspect was arrested later that day.

During the latter stages of the campaign, Trump pulled several stunts.

Most notably, in October, Trump worked at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, where he worked the fryer and drive-thru.

In the days leading up to the election, Trump heavily pushed his supporters to vote early, leading to record turnout in some parts of the country.

On November 5, 2024, Donald Trump was once again elected President of the United States, this time thanks to his victory in the Electoral College and the national popular vote.

He is now the first president to be elected for two non-consecutive terms since Grover Cleveland in 1892 (who was the only other president to ever do so).

Effective January 20, 2025, Donald J. Trump will become the 47th President of the United States of America.
