Downtown Portland’s Curious Cat Trail Auction Raises More Than $324,000 for Children’s Hospital

PORTLAND Oregon (KPTV) – Portland’s Trail of Coraline’s Curious Cats Farewell Weekend brought more than 10,000 visitors to the city and raised more than $324,000 for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

The trail, which is a free art trail throughout downtown Portland containing 31 cat sculptures nearly six feet tall, was installed in August. According to the Portland Metro Chamber, the trail generated an economic impact of nearly $4 million for the city’s downtown area.

The auction was a collaboration with LAIKA, the Visit Downtown Campaign, Wild in Art and OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. In late October, the cats were auctioned off to support the children’s hospital.

“What a truly incredible project! This art trail created a buzz throughout our city, brought thousands of visitors to downtown, boosted our local economy and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital,” said Andrew Hoan, president and CEO of the Portland Metro Chamber. “These cat sculptures now hold a special place in Portland’s history and symbolize both community spirit and resilience. We are very proud to have participated in this project.”

The total amount raised is $324,500.
