Background

On October 15, 2024, Australian YouTuber and streamer Kick Norme launched a live broadcast under the name “1 month in solitary confinement, no light” world record challenge on his YouTube channel “to test if I’m going crazy” , as he mentioned in the stream. (see below). The first video of the challenge garnered over 11,000 views and 210 likes in one month.

As of November 8, 2024, Norme has been in solitary confinement for 573 hours.

Online reactions

On November 6, 2024, Standard’s livestream “1 Month in Solitary Confinement, No Lights” gained viral attention after X users began sharing a video of him panicking inside Room 458 hours after he issued the challenge.

On October 28, 2024, Reddit user u/-Appleaday- posted a screenshot of Norme’s livestream to the /r/youtube subreddit (see below), writing: “First, he is broadcast live without sleeping for 12 days and now this? The post received around 6,600 likes and 270 reposts in a week.

On November 7, 2024, TikTok user @clipxinternjr posted a clip from Standard’s feed showing the creator eating drywall (shown below), which received over 22,000 plays and 240 likes in one daytime.
