Call to replace 3G pitches in Jersey due to health fears

Tim Pryor, chief executive of the Jersey FA, said artificial pitches would reduce the number of matches postponed.

“We know local clubs are struggling to secure training spots at current non-turf facilities, such as at Springfield Stadium, Upper Valley and Oakfield,” he said.

“They are heavily used, especially in the evenings, which is positive, but we need to improve the availability of training facilities so we can get more people playing.

“We also want to reduce the number of matches postponed due to soggy grass pitches in bad weather.

“New 3G pitches would allow us to play game after game after game, even after weeks of rain.

“Lack of access to good quality pitches can be one of the biggest barriers to playing football.”
