A breakthrough from Salah? Huge Liverpool update as ‘increasingly unlikely’ contract claim made

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah will wait until later in the season to decide on his future at Anfield, according to the latest reports.

The Egypt international has been in good form once again this season, with Salah having scored nine goals and seven assists in 15 matches in all competitions.

Salah, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, are out of contract at the end of the current season with no concrete signs that he will stay or go.

Liverpool are reluctant to offer long-term contracts to players in their 30s, but the 32-year-old will feel he deserves a lucrative contract due to his continued brilliant form in a Reds shirt.

After scoring the winning goal as Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 last weekendSalah has hinted his future at Anfield remains uncertain in a cryptic social media post.

Salah wrote: “Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there is only one champion in the end. This is what we want.

“Thank you for your support last night. Whatever happens, I will never forget what it means to score at Anfield.

And Football Insider claim now they have a “major update” on Salah’s future at Liverpool, with the Egyptian’s situation “increasingly unlikely to be resolved until later in the season”.

The report adds:

“Sources say Salah and his camp feel they are ready to evaluate other offers and how far clubs are willing to go to secure his services for next season and beyond.”

“That includes his current employers, Liverpool, who want to tie up the Egyptian and end one of three contractual impasses that cast a cloud over their remarkable start under new manager Arne Slot.”

Liverpool rejected offer of around £150m for Salah in the summer of 2023 from Saudi side Al-Ittihad, with the Reds having made it clear he is not for sale.

There has been speculation that Salah has already agreed to sign for a Saudi club next summer, when his Liverpool contract expires.

Football Insider continue:

“Liverpool are not concerned by reports that the 32-year-old striker has already agreed a deal with a Saudi club.

“The club’s hierarchy believes that Salah’s first choice is to extend beyond his current deal, which runs until the end of the season.

“However, the record-breaking 32-year-old striker is believed to want ‘three more years’ at the club where he achieved legendary status thanks to his goalscoring exploits.”
