Queen Camilla withdraws from all commemorative events due to chest infection

Queen Camille will not join the royal family at key Remembrance events after falling ill with a lung infection.

This weekend, King Charles will lead the family at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The Royal British Legion’s annual event commemorates the community of the British and Commonwealth armed forces, honoring those who have served and sacrificed.

However, Camilla, 77, will not join the group, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement on Saturday (November 9).

“Following doctors’ advice to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal lung infection and to protect others from any potential risks, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events,” the statement said.

“While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week,” it added.

PEOPLE understands there is no reason to worry for Camilla, who is spending the weekend at Ray Mill Wiltshire.

The royal did not want to pass on a lingering infection to others and was concerned that attending the events would delay her recovery.

When Buckingham Palace announced the list of working royals, including Prince William And Kate MiddletonWHO would attend Saturday service and on Remembrance Sunday, the Queen’s name was not listed in the November 8 update.

A few days earlier, on November 5, the palace said in a statement: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently suffering from a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised her to take a short period of rest.”

“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her commitments for this week, but she very much hopes to be restored in time to normally attend the Remembrance events this weekend,” it continued. “She apologizes to anyone who may be inconvenienced or disappointed by this.”

As Queen Camilla rested privately at home under the care of her doctors, two other family members took her place.

On November 7, Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester represented the Queen at the annual Field of Remembrance event at Westminster Abbey, showing her support for the Poppy Factory charity which Camilla supports as a patron.

Later the same day, King Charles, 75, hosted a reception for British athletes who received medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, appearing solo at an event he and his wife were originally scheduled to attend together.

The Festival of Remembrance is a must for the royal family. The King, Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince Edward, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Richardthe Duke of Gloucester, Birgitte and Prince Edwardthe Duke of Kent, are all expected to appear this year.

The presence of the Princess of Wales is particularly anticipated, as it is her first major event with the royal family after she announced on September 9 that she had completed chemotherapy treatment. Six months earlier, on March 22, the Princess of Wales announced that she was undergoing cancer treatment and reduced her work duties to prioritize her health.
