    Long before the recent craze for crossovers and SUVs, people, especially in North American and Middle Eastern countries, who wanted a large vehicle with abundant cargo capacity and a tall ride height, generally turned towards the vans; especially double cab vans.

    However, in this part of the world, due to limited parking spaces and social stereotypes, these vehicles are only purchased for commercial use. That being said, if you’re looking for a double-cab pickup truck that you can use both commercially and as a daily driver, here are some of the best options currently on the market.

    The Mitsubishi L200 has arguably always been the most popular pickup truck in Bangladesh. It is known for its reliability, robust performance, and advanced features. This year, Mitsubishi is introducing the all-new L200 in Bangladesh, featuring a beefier front fascia, sleek LED headlights and a muscular overall build.

    Under the hood is a new 2,442 cc turbocharged diesel engine producing an increased maximum power of 109 hp, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and powering all four wheels.

    Inside, the L200 has also been redesigned to offer a new modernized and minimalist interior, now featuring a sporty steering wheel and a touchscreen infotainment system. Physical buttons are also present for additional functionality.

    Overall, the interior is designed with passenger comfort and safety in mind. The interior compartment comfortably accommodates up to five people and has a 5-star NCAP safety rating. There are several storage spaces improving convenience for cyclists, whether the journey is short or long.

    The truck’s fuel efficiency has always been above average and the new engine is now designed to improve efficiency even further, making it suitable for everyday use. It also comes with a range of driver assistance features, but these and the price may vary depending on its trim levels.

    The Changan Hunter, launched this year, is the new competitor in this segment. This is a robust and practical van designed for both work and play. Its aggressive look and modern aesthetic appeal to those who appreciate style as well as performance.

    Inside, the Changan Hunter surprisingly features a luxurious interior. However, the rear does not have the argument of the spacious cabin. Although there is commendable headroom and good lumbar support, rear passengers will struggle for legroom.

    There are Bluetooth music and physical buttons for all infotainment, climate and vehicle controls. The layout is practical, with easy-to-use controls and ample storage space, making it ideal for long journeys or everyday business use.

    Under the hood, we find a 2,000 cc turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, producing a maximum of 110 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 350 Nm of peak torque, sent to all four wheels. For features, it includes Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Brake Assist. Besides all the off-road capabilities, its suspension is designed to not only support rugged performance, but it also ensures comfort for the driver and passengers.

    Its balance of power and utility, combined with good fuel efficiency, around 8 km/l, makes it a good choice for commercial and personal use.

    The JAC T8, intended to be assembled locally, is the cheapest offering on this list. It features a bold, contemporary design with a prominent grille, sleek LED headlights and a muscular build, giving it an aggressive look.

    Inside, the T8 has ample cabin space for five passengers to sit comfortably, designed with ergonomic considerations for long journeys. It includes modern features like a touchscreen infotainment system and air conditioning. The layout is user-friendly, with easy-to-reach controls and plenty of storage space, making it suitable for long-haul travel.

    Under the hood, it is equipped with a 1,910 cc engine, developing maximum power and torque of 136 hp and 320 Nm respectively. Available in 2WD and 4WD configurations, it is capable of handling difficult terrains, making it makes it ideal for both work and outdoor adventures. The 4-wheel drive option, combined with a robust suspension, ensures a stable ride on rough roads while providing good off-road capabilities.

    The JAC T8 also comes with hydraulic power steering, heated exterior mirrors, hill hold control (HHC), hydraulic brake assist (HBA) and traction control system (TCS) improving driving experience. In addition, its fuel efficiency is reasonable for a pick-up of its size, announced at 10.75 km/l.

    Under the hood, the Navara comes with a 2,488 cc turbocharged diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission and an available 4WD setup. For safety and driver assistance, it features hill descent control, uphill assist and an electronic limited slip differential (ELSD) which, along with Nissan’s advanced suspension system, provide smooth and stable ride, even on rough roads.
