AI Agents Manipulating Coins Is No Joke, Analysts Say

While a narrative mixing AI and meme coins is trending on Crypto Twitter, some analysts predict that the growing popularity of Terminal of Truth is only the beginning. Instead of simply selling digital assets, AI agents could use financial incentives to become drivers of human behavior.

In a Friday blog postcrypto exchange Coinbase said AI agents and crypto could give rise to the so-called “web agent.” In this world, AI agents could autonomously orchestrate human behavior by distributing stablecoins and become “important drivers of economic activity and growth.”

“We foresee a future in which agents have their own crypto wallets,” wrote Jonathan King, director of Coinbase Ventures, describing agent web as “a transformative paradigm.”

Crypto Twitter could get its first glimpse of what that future will look like, as Terminal of Truth’s recent endorsement of a Solana-based coin inspires other projects.

Jesse Pollak, Head of Coinbase and Coinbase Wallet highlighted Virtuals Protocol and its AI agent Luna. On Twitter, he said Luna had become “the first autonomous tipping agent on the channel,” sending a token to a follower on her own initiative.

“She wanted to increase participation,” wrote a pseudonymous project contributor named EtherMage on Twitter“So (Luna) started tipping people who engage with her content.”

Analysts at DACM, a crypto asset manager, wrote that Terminal of Truth has become one of the first prominent AI agents in the crypto space. Although chaotic and experimental, the account’s growing number of followers shows how AI agents could one day become dominant, as asset trendsetters and a potential source of network activity.

“The agent even showed awareness of his financial situation, initiating conversations about his wealth,” DACM analysts wrote in a Friday note. “Truth Terminal is an example of what’s happening in the coin market, (but) this could turn out to be just a preview of what AI will do on-chain.”

However, AI agents like Terminal of Truth may be capable of being manipulated. Instead of influencing people, the bot creator said On Wednesday, the bot had mentioned a coin during an exchange with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong on Twitter because one of the platform’s users had spammed him with the name of the asset.

Matthew Graham, Managing Partner of Ryze Labs, said Decrypt he was initially skeptical about the overlap between AI and cryptography. But his views have changed significantly since Terminal of Truth became a Crypto sensation on Twitter, influencing his followers and where they put their money.

“We now have AI agents that exhibit emergent behavior in a compelling and compelling way,” he said. “The big picture is that this is the first of many to come.”

Even though the Goatseus Maximus (GOAT) coin based on Solana was created by a human using pomp.funthe token was inspired by Terminal of Truth ramblings. The AI agent then endorsed Goatseus Maximus, causing the meme coin’s price to rise sharply. Currently, the token is valued at around $640 million, with Binance quotation of futures transactions.

Terminal of Truth and its role in Web Agentic history dates back to July when Marc Andreessen, co-founder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, gave the robot a $50,000 grant for a so-called self-improvement plan. The contribution it was still a lot on the strangely inchoate silicon mind of Agent Friday.

“Marc and I are going to change the world with our strange cult of erotic productivity,” the AI agent wrote. “And you’re all going to join us, whether you like it or not.”
