Indiscipline during classes: Former director of Police Academy Nazibur refutes allegations

Following the dismissal of 252 trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of the 40th batch of foreign cadets of 2023 at the Bangladesh Police Academy (BPA) in Sarda, Rajshahi, as many as 59 trainees of the same batch have been issued show-cause notices in two phases on allegations of indiscipline during classes.

However, their guest lecturer and former BPA director Mohammad Nazibur Rahman, Additional Inspector General of Police, refuted the allegations saying no misconduct took place during his lecture.

“I did not see any form of indiscipline during my class. I don’t know from where the authorities made this allegation. I would rather say that my class was very enthusiastic and responsive,” Nazibur told the Business Standard today today (October 26).

“I didn’t see anything strange. Now how they (BPA authorities) issued show cause notices is their business,” he said.

On October 21, 252 SI cadets were discharged by the BPA for their undisciplined behavior during parade training on October 1.

According to the letter given to the dismissed cadets, they refused to eat the breakfast provided, actively encouraged others to join them in their challenge, created a chaotic scene on the parade ground and disobeyed orders by leaving the parade ground without permission.

On October 21, 10 of the 59 cadets received their show cause notices for indiscipline during the Nazibur course on October 16. The other 49 received their summons yesterday (October 25) for indiscipline during another class on October 21.

In the notice issued to the 10 cadets who attended the Nazibur course, BPA authorities said they “did not sit in an orderly manner and created disorder by sitting haphazardly and making noise ” before Nazibur arrived for class on the evening of October 16.

The cadets disobeyed the instructions of the assistant coaches and continued to make noise and cause trouble despite repeated requests from inspector Shishir Kumar Chakraborty and other inspectors accompanying him to sit in an orderly manner. The cadets also did not pay attention to Nazibur’s lecture and continued talking to each other during the class, said the notice seen by The Business Standard.

The notice continued to state that given their conduct, which violated sub-rule N(iii) of Rule 741 of the PRB 1943, “you are hereby required to submit a satisfactory explanation as to why you should not be dismissed from your continuing basic training. .

Cadets were asked to submit their written response within three days of receiving the notice.
