New update could cause problems for the future of the PS5 Pro

A new developer update to a PS5 Pro launch game could reveal some issues the new premium PlayStation console will encounter in the future. Without doing anything, the PS5 Pro will run games a little better than the PS5. Meanwhile, some PS5 games are “enhanced” for the PS5 Pro, meaning that the developer of the said game has gone the extra mile to improve and upgrade the game keeping in mind the specs and capabilities of the PS5 Pro.

An “enhanced” game for PS5 Pro is No Man’s Sky from British developer Hello Games. While No Man’s Sky was one of the biggest releases of the previous console generation, Hello Games isn’t one of the biggest studios in the industry. Its staff is estimated to be around 50 people, which is much smaller than the average AAA studio, but much larger than many independent studios.

That said, speaking to social media platform X, Hello Games engine programmer Martin Griffiths revealed that he spent four to five months preparing No Man’s Sky for the PS5 Pro. This means that Hello Games spent at least four to five months working on the game for PS5 Pro, maybe more, and maybe a lot more.

“I spent about 4-5 months of my time spread over the last year working on PS5 Pro support,” writes the developer. “It was a difficult task since we are one of the smallest teams releasing today and also one of the few games supporting both 4K and 8K, as well as PSVR2. I’m immensely proud to play a part in this release today – I hope you all enjoy! »

Why is this remarkable? Well, that’s a lot of time and resources to spend on a game just to upgrade it for the PS5 Pro. And if this is indicative of the time it takes to “enhance” games on the PS5 Pro, that could spell trouble for the machine. Even though many AAA studios will have the resources to allocate to the console, this schedule and demand could be too much for many independent studios, and potentially even AA studios.

If that turns out to be true, it will mean fewer games taking advantage of the PS5 Pro, which could be a problem for both consumers and PlayStation, which is set to release the premium $700 machine in the new years.
