Tetchy HBO reminds that Euphoria is still not dead: “Nothing has changed”

Considering how many canceled TV shows we’ve written about over the years, it’s really strange to be talking about it on one where its network has to keep reassure the public a series doesn’t been shitty. But such is the strange fate of HBO and Euphoriathe Warner Bros. network. Discovery once again released statements over the weekend regarding rumors that the show’s third season would never happen.

There are of course reasons for this: EuphoriaThe attempted third broadcast of was borderline doomed, with the deaths of two personalities associated with the series (including actor Angus Cloud), and allegations that star Zendaya and creator Sam Levinson are unhappy with each other over Levinson’s decision to take The idol with The Weeknd during the gap between seasons. Plot-wise, the series finds itself at a typically tense point for high school dramas, as the majority of its characters age out of the show’s original setting. That’s to say nothing of the good kinds of problems faced by its cast: few recent TV series have launched as many careers as this one, and the increasingly busy schedules from Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer and other members of its cast can only make filming a TV show even more difficult to pull off.

Nevertheless: HBO broadcast a statement today to The Independent who was blunt in his stance on the series: “Euphoria will enter production in 2025. Nothing has changed. Of course, it’s still unclear what that third season might look like — or, more importantly, whether Levinson, his star, and the network have selected what that might look like — but HBO is, for now, maintaining a strong front. It happens, they assure us, no matter how many Christopher Nolan films or Wuthering Heights adaptations, its cast accumulates in the meantime.
