Britt furious that FEMA workers ignored hurricane victims with Trump signs

(WTVY) – U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) is demanding answers about a government employee who ordered FEMA workers helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton to leave homes with signs Donald Trump campaign in the courtyard.

“It is simply outrageous that a FEMA staff member, let alone a supervisor, would condition victim assistance based on their political views,” Britt wrote in a letter to the Secretary of Homeland Security , Alejandro Mayorkas, and to the Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Deanne Criswell.

The incident occurred in Florida.

A FEMA spokesperson said in a statement that the agency was “deeply disturbed by the actions of this employee” and that the incident was under investigation.

The agency did not identify the employee but said she had been removed from her position, the spokesperson said.

“I appreciate that Administrator Criswell condemned these actions and fired the supervisor, but the American people need answers about how this happened and whether anyone else was complicit, as well as to have confidence that this won’t happen again,” Britt said.

The FEMA employee apparently ordered workers to leave about 20 homes displaying Trump signs.

The senator is a ranking member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Committee.
