Divorce never heard of in society in the past: CJ Sujoy Paul

WARANGAL: Free legal services existed in India before independence. A team of Indian lawyers provided free legal services to freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and from then on free legal services were started in India, Justice Sujoy Paul of the High Court said Telangana Court.

Justice Paul was speaking at the Legal Services Day celebrations organized by the District Law Cell Authority at Ambedkar Bhavan in Hanamkonda on Saturday. He said the kind of justice system that existed in India was also appreciated by the British.

Justice Paul said that since Anganwadi and ASHA workers and members of self-help groups (SHGs) would be in constant touch with the people of the villages, the law cell authority must make arrangements to provide free legal services to the population through them.

In Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts, a new system called community mediation has been introduced, which works effectively and resolves disputes through mediation between parties. Members of the legal unit authorities, involving people, should work from the ground providing services to people and running programs.

In the past, people never heard the word divorce in society and never went to court to seek divorce. But nowadays it has become very common.

By mediating between husband and wife and counseling them, steps were taken by the legal cell authority to help them live a happy married life, he added.

State Law Cell Authority Secretary Panchakshari, Warangal Unit Chairman BV Nirmala Githamba, Hanamkonda Unit Chairman CH Ramesh Babu, Collectors Satya Sharada and Praveenya and Commissioner police officer Ambar Kishor Jha were present.
