Con community raises flags at new Veterans Park

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – The new Veterans Memorial Park in Crooks brought the community together Saturday to honor those who have served.

Bine flags have been raised over Crooks Park for the first time and they will fly there forever.

Current service members and veterans stood proudly alongside the flags marking their service as they were raised.

The project was first launched about a year ago.

“It’s gone wonderfully over the last year. We are very proud of where we are and what we have accomplished over the past year. We have a little work to do over the next year, but we’re very happy with where we are,” said Crooks Veterans Park board member Rick Tupper.

The two-acre site is located across the street from Tri-Valley Elementary School.

“Crooks is a very patriotic community and we are honored to have welcomed so many people here on a cold and windy day. For us, that was the main point to raise the flags for the first time and they will stay up above the park forever,” Tupper said.

There are also large stone tablets symbolizing each branch, which will also be installed soon.
