On the ground, San Antonio Spurs Rookie Stephon Castle impressed his team from the start with his pace and much older mindset than his 19-year-old self.

Off the field, he also began to make his name known.

Announced Friday by Jordan Brand, Castle is one of four NBA rookies – the others being Los Angeles Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht, 76ers rookie Jared McCain and Toronto’s Ja’Kobe Walter – who signed a shoes with the brand as they begin their professional careers. join the “Our Turn” campaign.

In one regular season game played, Castle scored eight points, five assists and three rebounds. Throughout the preseason, he averaged 11 points, 3.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals, demonstrating solid defense and an ability to get to the rim – solid attributes for a recruit.

“He’s a competitive son,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “He sticks his nose in. Nothing impresses him. He wants to learn.”

As the season progresses, what happens to Castle’s minutes will likely be up to him. If he continues to play well and develop like the Spurs hope, his role will only grow.
