‘Mahayuti’s allies will decide CM’s face after polls,’ says Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Mumbai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the ruling Mahayuti in Maharashtra would retain power with a full majority and a decision on the identity of the chief minister would be taken by the partners of the alliance after the elections in the state.

Speaking to reporters here after unveiling the BJP’s manifesto for the November 20 assembly elections, Shah expressed confidence in Mahayuti’s victory in the elections.

The three alliance partners – the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s NCP – have released their programs and after the elections, a committee of ministers from the three parties will be formed to Prioritize the assurances given, Shah said.

“At present, Eknath Shinde is the chief minister. After the elections, the three alliance partners will decide the chief minister,” the senior BJP leader said.

He said Shiv Sena and NCP parted ways because Uddhav Thackeray prioritized his son over Eknath Shinde while Sharad Pawar prioritized his daughter over Ajit Pawar.

“These parties have given priority to their family members and the parties have become divided. They are blaming the BJP for no reason,” he said.

The BJP is against family-based politics, Shah asserted.

He rejected the Congress’ charge over the BJP’s plan to weaken reservations.

“It is the Modi government which has expressed reservations on OBCs. In fact, we are strengthening the reservations,” he said.

Shah also said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s act of flaunting the Constitution came to light after it was revealed that the book (carried by Gandhi) contained blank pages.

“He (Gandhi) is now the butt of a joke,” the BJP leader said.

Shah said leaders of the opposition MVA party were targeting the Mahayuti government’s Ladki Bahin program for women, but had taken similar assurance by giving them greater financial assistance.

“This shows their contradictions. Instead of taking stock of our performance, Rahul Gandhi should check what is happening in the states ruled by his party,” he said.

Shah also said that the Congress’s caste politics was aimed at dividing the country. He rejected the MVA’s allegations that Maharashtra was lagging behind in investments.

“During the MVA rule, Maharashtra stood at 4th position (in terms of FDI) while in the last two years the state got the highest FDI,” Shah said.
