Manchester vs. Berkshire, Ohio high school football score updates

NEW FRANKLIN — They turned out the lights for the first year of football at Manchester’s brand new stadium. James R. France Stadium.

As for the The panthers incredible season, there’s still time to go.

Manchester beat Burton Berkshire 41-19. Friday to win a game in the third round of the OHSAA Division V playoffs. The Panthers will face Poland Seminary next week at a site to be determined.

This Manchester season reminded long-time fans of the great teams coached by the man who gave his name to stadiums new and old. The Panthers will head into the Round of 16 with an 11-1 record. In the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Manchester has a combined score of 1-19.

In the Panthers’ minds, the last home game was not the time to reflect on how good this comeback season was.

“It hasn’t really happened yet,” Manchester head coach Kevin Stacy said. “We always try to take a week-by-week approach. … I’m just trying to look at next week and then we’ll think about it later.

“I know we were undefeated on this court this year, which is pretty cool. I’m looking forward to next week.”

Phil Partin ran for 151 yards and three touchdowns and Yadin Sharp threw three TD passes for the Panthers, who reached the third round for the first time since 2019.

Manchester led 28-0 at halftime and forced a running clock in the second half for the second week in a row. A defensive stance actually set the wheels in motion for what was to come.

Sharp saw his first pass intercepted deep in his own territory. The Panthers defense forced a Berkshire turnover on downs at the 26-yard line.

“It helped a lot,” Partin said of the shutdown. “We can count on them when difficult times arise.”

The Panthers can also count on Partin to spark the offense. He quickly did so on the first moment of Manchester’s third drive when he ran 70 yards for a touchdown.

“It’s been a big dynamic change,” Stacy said. “We were trying to see what they were going to give us in terms of formation and we went into a bunch of different formations. That race right there was our bread and butter. He looked really fast.”

There have been many productive Partin races this season. He rushed for over 1,800 yards and 30 touchdowns.

“But I have to give way to my line,” Partin said. “This wouldn’t have been possible without them.”

Sharp threw touchdown passes to Dominic Allen, Jake Livingston and Zeke Sundbury. He was efficient 6 of 7 for 103 yards after the interception.

“He’s our enabler,” Stacy said. “His stats don’t necessarily show it, but he’s about 36 percent of our total offense. He really does a great job distributing the ball. He’s always a threat.”

The Panthers remained in control all night. The Badgers put together a mini two-touchdown series in the second half, but never posed a serious threat to overtake Manchester.

As the Panthers move forward, they know the importance of playing four strong quarters. This will be essential to extend this return season.

“We just have to keep working every day this week,” Partin said. “We just have to keep getting better and better.”

Here’s how the game played out with our live updates.
