Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez needs to think less in front of goal

Speaking on Match of the daythe expert noted how Darwin Nuñez seems to overthink his finishing every time he is given an extra second to take a good opportunity, with the striker scoring Liverpool’s opener against Villa.

“Without a doubt, his pace is a great strength and he will always cause problems for defenders. It’s a really clever finish, if only you could say that so many more times about him because he’s very inconsistent in his finishing at times, and that’s going to frustrate some people.

“On the plus side, he never stops getting in there and you have to admire him. He pairs really well with Mo Salah. He’s got 22 in 73 in the Premier League for Liverpool, but it could and should be a lot more as he misses big chances.

“I think he’s better when he doesn’t have time to think, when it happens naturally. When he has three or four seconds to think about it, I think he becomes more unpredictable. I’m not sure it will get better. He’ll have moments where you think, ‘Oh my God, it’s improved massively when he’s scoring goals for a month’, very tricky.

Nunez showed against Villa that he can take a step forward

Although Liverpool fans were mixed on Nunez’s performance against Villathe Uruguay international was more effective than usual with the striker scoring a fantastic goal past Emi Martinez to put the Reds on track.

And according to Nunez’s statistics against Villa, the striker was a productive force in the Reds’ attack, with the former Benfica star unlucky not to add to his goal tally after having two good chances against Unai Emery’s team.

Indeed, Nunez has shown in recent weeks that he is becoming more sensible in his attacking choices, and there could be a hint of a move forward based on his recent performances with Liverpool.
