Arizona’s slow election results make it a national shame

A recent article discussing long vote counting in Arizona said, “The delay that has become a feature of Arizona elections is due to the many options Arizona offers its voters. »

The failure to quickly close the election is annoying to the citizens of Arizona and makes our state a disgrace on the national stage.

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Research and analyze what almost every other state does to get Election Day results, choose a method that would work for Arizona, and legislate accordingly.

Change our electoral process. This should have been done a long time ago.

Tricia Hance, Sierra Vista

This is what we just voted for

Authoritarianism over democracy, lies over truth, divisions over inclusion, hatred over civility, anger over acceptance, the rich over the middle class.

This is what the public just voted for.

The GOP had an opportunity to shed Trump and his MAGA extremists and become the moderate GOP of years past.

Now, extremists such as U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz will hold key positions as committee chairs.

Wild claims that people eat pets will continue unabated. Legitimate journalists will be put on an enemies list.

Trump plans to spend billions to deport people and add tariffs on goods from China. Do you think inflation is bad right now? Wait.

The Democrats had all sorts of programs to help the middle class. Everything is gone. And for what? To save a few extra cents on milk?

There are good reasons why Trump won

The only other president in history to win non-consecutive terms was Grover Cleveland.

We can now thank the Democratic Party, as well as Joe Biden’s officials, for exposing his complete lack of mental acuity to voters and propelling Trump to both an electoral and popular victory, the first since George W. Bush.

The majority of prognosticators were wrong, and all the network’s sophisticated interactive maps proved useless.

Three takeaways from the Democrats’ embarrassing losses are:

  1. Voters were ultimately not ready to elect a woman president.

  2. The electorate is completely disillusioned with the prospect of a liberal Kamala Harris presidency.

  3. Even though Biden sang the praises of the economy, it never had an effect in Americans’ pocketbooks.

Arizona has a great election system

Recently, I spent a week with my mother in Maricopa County.

Like so many seniors, she votes from home and mails in her ballot, avoiding long walks and long periods of standing. She found the information booklet on the many proposals very useful.

We sent him his ballot with my cell number, since mom got rid of her cell phone a while ago.

More letters: Public schools need our support

THE following The day I received a text message informing me that his ballot had been received. THE following The same day, I received a text message that his signature had been verified and his ballot had been counted.

I was very surprised to receive feedback so quickly, assuring us that his ballot had arrived and was included in the count.

Thank you to Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and his team for all their hard work. Arizona has a safe and secure voting system that can be completely trusted.

At least the political ads are over

It’s comforting to know that the seemingly endless parade of nasty political ads will soon be replaced by a seemingly endless parade of nasty side effects from prescription drugs.

Why can’t we say who we support?

What is going on with us? I put a political sign in my yard a month ago. Soon a neighbor came up to me and said, “This takes courage. » She wanted to put up her own sign but was afraid of being vandalized.

A week later, someone stole my sign. I quickly replaced it with other panels. I took them all out one weekend because we were having a garage sale in the neighborhood. I didn’t want any controversy over the weekend.

Another neighbor approached me during the sale and asked where my signs were going, so I explained my reasoning. His comment was: “There are several neighbors on the street who also support your candidates, but are afraid to nominate their own. »

After the sale, I replaced my signs. Have we reached a point where people are afraid to declare their political choices for fear of reprisals?

I’m scared too. Fear that policy choices are an excuse for anger and vengeance, not an opportunity to learn about our neighbors and improve our communities.
