Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has a “surprise plan B” and “could leave” the Premier League holders next year, according to reports.

Pep Guardiola’s side paid around £51m for signing Haaland of Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund during the 2021 summer transfer window.

During his stay at Man City, Haaland has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world and has been a prolific goalscorer for the Premier League side.

Haaland scored his 15th goal of the season in his 16th appearance in Man City’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Sunday. In total, he has 105 goals and 14 assists during his 114 outings in all competitions.

The 24-year-old is under contract until 2027, but has been heavily linked with a move in recent months as Man City still have their 115 charges for alleged Financial Fair Play violations hanging over their shoulders.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have been mooted as possible destinations for Haaland, but a Spanish report claims PSG is a “surprise plan B” for the striker.

PSG have reportedly ‘entered the fight’ for Haaland as they prepare a ‘bombshell signing’.

The leaders of Ligue One would be “ready to take advantage of this unique opportunity and Haaland “could decide to change the scenery”.

The report claims that “Guardiola’s future is key to Haaland’s decision.” The Man City boss has entered the final year of his contract and it remains to be seen whether he will sign an extension.

The Spaniard is going through a difficult time as Man City have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions. Their 2-1 defeat to Brighton followed defeats against Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth and Sporting Lisbon.

Considering that PSG is a “very attractive option” for Haaland, the report explains.

“Haaland’s link with Manchester City was very successful during his first few seasons, but Guardiola’s influence was decisive in the Norwegian’s adaptation and performance in the Premier League.

“The uncertainty over the future of the Catalan coach, who could seek a new challenge away from England, has generated a series of rumors about Haaland’s continuity in the team.

“Without the coach who provided him with an ideal environment for his development, the Norwegian could explore other options in search of a new project that motivates him.

“In this context, PSG appears to be a very attractive option. Although Barcelina and Real Madrid are long sought-after destinations for Haaland, PSG emerges as a strong alternative to become the Norwegian striker’s new home.

“Guardiola’s departure from City is not yet a fact, but if confirmed, the transfer market could take an unexpected turn.”
