Hal Bentley, Macon County Coroner told AL.com that “quite a few people” had been injured, but he could not provide details.

The injured included a student who was shot in the stomach and a student who was shot in the arm, Tuskeegee Police Chief Patrick Mardis said.

“Some idiots started shooting,” Mardis told AL.com. “We couldn’t get emergency vehicles in, there were so many people.”

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting.

“It’s horrible,” said Mardis, the school’s former campus police chief. “I always had tingling sensations when I was there. You see this happening everywhere. It happened everywhere else except ours.

Last year, four people were injured when a shooting broke out during an “unsanctioned party” in West Commons, prompting school officials to cancel classes. according to the WSFA.

One student blamed university officials for security problems plaguing the school and allowing visitors to enter freely without being screened.

“Those who say the party was not authorized are blaming us, it’s crazy because even if it was an authorized party, with the security measures we put in place, the same thing could have happened,” Mechel Winters told the outlet. .

“I just expected it to be a safe place because we’re on campus and there should be security measures in place,” she said.
