    See All the Movies and Shows Filmed In Altadena’s Famous ‘Rubio House’

    Some places are just meant for movie magic.

    Such is the case for a certain house in Altadena, California. The large, colonial home — nicknamed The Rubio House for its location on Rubio Street — is an iconic home featured in many television shows and films.

    The home’s storied history is part of The House From … a documentary film by Tommy Avallone and narrated by Jason Lee, which looks at some of the most famous homes from television and film. In the documentary, owners Liz and Mike discuss what it’s like to have a famous home.

    “We have family and friends from all over the country who have called and texted like, ‘I saw your house.’ I mean, everybody knows the house,” Liz says. “To think the house itself is famous makes me very proud.”

    Here are some moments in screen history from which you might recognize the Rubio House.

    ‘7th Heaven’

    The house featured in the ’90s television series 7th Heaven was almost a character unto itself. In the show, the home is gifted to the growing family by the church and is contingent on the Camdens staying with their church and community.

    ‘Desperate Housewives’

    The home’s entryway appears in many different series, including the early ’00s hit Desperate Housewives.

    ‘American Pie’

    American Pie‘s raucous house parties were filmed in the Altadena home. “Stifler went from the entry to what we called the den, from the den then into the living room,” owner Liz says, explaining the home’s layout in the 1999 film. As she walks into the backyard, she notes the balcony area from the peeing scene.

    ‘This Is Us’

    The home’s front door and entryway were a focal point in a 2016 episode of This Is Uswhich Liz shares as one of the most recent productions people point out.

    ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

    The front of the house was featured in a scene in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphianotable because the house is rarely, even fictionally, used as a piece of East Coast real estate.

    ‘Cheaper By the Dozen’

    The house lends itself to a big family, as seen in its use in 2003’s Cheaper by the Dozenin which Steve Martin tries to survive a morning with his horde of kids.

    ‘I Know Who Killed Me’

    ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’

    Ethan Embry revisited the home as part of The House From… and recalled filming 1998’s Can’t Hardly Wait. The outdoor house party scene was a major one from the movie, but not one owners Mike and Liz recall well.
