Trump says he won’t ask Haley and Pompeo to join second administration

President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that he would not ask his former Nikki Haley, United Nations Ambassador or his former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to serve in his new administration.

“I will not invite former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump administration, now in formation,” Trump said. Social truth. “I have greatly enjoyed working with them before and would like to thank them for their service to our country.”

Trump appointed Haley as UN ambassador in 2016, and she resigned two years later. The former South Carolina governor ran for president in 2024, winning primaries in Vermont and Washington DC and becoming the first woman to win a Republican primary.

Haley And Pompeo have sometimes criticized Trump in recent years, but both ultimately supported his re-election bid and helped rally GOP voters at the Republican convention this summer. Even though she didn’t initially support Trump after he dropped out of the Republican primary, Haley released her. 97 electoral delegates a week before the Republican convention and officially endorsed him.

Pompeo also served as director of the CIA during the first Trump administration. According to several reportsPompeo’s name has been floated as an option for the next Secretary of Defense.

Haley said Saturday she was “proud” to have served in the former president’s first term. in an article on and shared Trump’s Truth Social statement.

“I wish him and all those who serve every success in moving us toward a stronger, more secure America over the next four years,” Haley said.

USA TODAY requested comment from Pompeo.

Pompeo and Haley are two Republicans who have long supported additional U.S. support for Ukraine. it became unpopular among some right-wing lawmakers in Congress. Trump also expressed skepticism about additional U.S. support.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk participated in the first phone call between Asset And Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky since Trump’s election Tuesday, media outlets reported, raising questions about his potential role in the next administration.
