Vijayawada:After receiving a complaint, police launched an investigation into the alleged illegal adoption of a baby girl by a childless couple in Narasaraopet in Palnadu district. Women and child development authorities said they came to know of the illegal adoption of a one-month-old baby girl by a woman. The childless mother wanted a child and adopted the little girl, apparently without knowing the rules of adoption.

Meanwhile, police launched an investigation into the matter amid allegations that money was involved in the illegal adoption and the issue was not limited to just one baby as reports emerged of a few more babies given up for adoption for money. Uma Rani, director of Palnadu district women and child development project, said, “We have come to know of unauthorized adoption of a baby girl by a childless woman, probably ignoring the norms to do so . We alerted the police to open an investigation.
