‘RHOC’ Star Emily Simpson Recalls ‘Traumatic’ Miscarriage With Twins During Second Trimester

The Real Housewives of Orange County star Emily Simpson recalled her “traumatic” miscarriage with twins on the Oct. 18 episode of Scheana Shay’s Podcast “The Scheananigans”.

“When (my husband) Shane and I first got married 15 years ago, we started trying to have kids pretty early because I was 32 at the time,” Emily explained . “I remember at 32 thinking, ‘My clock is ticking.’”

“I had several miscarriages – I don’t even know how many at this point, I think it was five or six or something – just one after the other. I got to the point where I did in vitro (fertilization).

The “Real Housewife” continued, “I will never forget being at Costco and being pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl. I was there four months and I remember saying to Shane, “I don’t feel good. Something wrong.

“Just as I said that, my water broke all over the driveway. Of course, you know that when you’re only four months pregnant and your water breaks, something is wrong.

Emily was taken to the local emergency room in Utah – where the couple lived at the time – where she “had to give birth.”

“They had to know that they were not going to survive,” she remembers.

The ordeal required Emily to undergo an emergency D&C and blood transfusion.

“It was the most horrible thing I have ever experienced in my entire life. I remember crying all the time holding on to (Shane) saying, “I’ll never do that again.” I can’t go through this.’

After Emily was hospitalized, the Bravo star said she told her sister Sara Moffitt about her experience.

“She said, ‘Please don’t do it again.’ I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but your body just can’t do it. She said, ‘I’ll do it for you,'” Emily said.

Moffitt, who had a child of her own at the time, went on to carry the Simpsons’ three children — Annabelle, 11, and twins Luke and Keller, both 9 — as her sister’s surrogate. Shane is also the father of his older daughters Shelby and Chanel, both of whom he welcomed from a previous relationship.

“I still do it to this day, I don’t know why I could never wear it,” Emily told Shay. “It was traumatic. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced, so when I look at my three children now, I always think of my sister and everything she sacrificed.
