The joke is on Woody Johnson after the delusions of his Jets dream team

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Woody Johnson’s dream team has been put to sleep.

Johnson’s Jets, boasting a star-studded roster with Pro Bowl accolades, All-Pro honors, gaudy personal stats and even future Hall of Fame status, have officially become a nightmare.

THE Jets’ disgusting 31-6 loss to Cardinals Sunday at State Farm Stadium effectively ended any suspended reality regarding a run for a first playoff berth in 14 years.

The Jets are 3-7 now and would likely need to run the table in their final seven games to even sniff a playoff spot.

(You can stop laughing now.)

The Jets arrived in Arizona seemingly fresh off a nine-day break following their win over the Texans a week ago Thursday, a game in which they looked as good as they had all season in the decisive second half, scoring three touchdowns.

This victory renewed at least a glimmer of hope that quarterback Aaron Rodgers, receivers Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson, rusher Haason Reddick, running back Bryce Hall and the rest of the best team Woody Johnson ever had view wearing green could actually do. something from this season.

Well, the joke is on everyone who dared to hope that this could happen. But mostly the joke revolves around Johnson, the owner who has a delusional sense of the mess he oversees.

This latest low point must surely be enough to prompt Johnson to beg President Trump to run for a second term as US ambassador to the UK so that he can leave the country for another four years and no longer have to endure such nonsense.

It turned out that Woody’s all-star team wasn’t a team at all, and that’s the most damning thing about these Jets.

This is a group of independent contractors who collect large contracts past their prime and have failed miserably to form a team.

And the result is the same as for 13 years: too many losses. Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Sam Darnold? What’s the difference? Same results. Same old Jets.

Rodgers’ shine at 40 has clearly worn off. He looks like a lousy quarterback who is either afraid to throw the ball down the field or is simply incapable of doing so.

“It’s been a lot of emotion this year, that’s for sure,” Rodgers said.

When asked to elaborate on those emotions, Rodgers responded, “Yeah, I won’t. This is neither the time nor the place to discuss all of this at the moment. There are still many ahead of us.

Lots of questions, including whether these final seven games of lost time will mark the end of Rodgers as a Jet and perhaps his remarkable career.

Adams came in four games ago and gave that emotional team speech in Pittsburgh about five minutes after joining the team, and made no difference. He’s caught 17 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown in four games – three for 31 yards on Sunday.

“It’s frustrating,” Adams said. “I don’t really know what to say. It was just a weird, weird day.

Adams obviously wasn’t warned before he got here that strange things were happening to the Jets.

In the win over Houston, Adams and Wilson looked like the best receiver tandem in the league. On Sunday, they combined for 11 catches and 72 quiet yards.

“Given how we practiced during the week, how we went about training camp (and) what I think we have in this locker room, yeah, it’s shocking,” Wilson said of a 3-7 record. “We play like trash.”

Wilson was referring to the offense.

That brings us to the defense, which has regressed since the day head coach Robert Saleh was fired and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was brought in to replace him on an interim basis.

The Jets defense allowed Arizona to score on its first five possessions.

Embarrassing.

Reddick?

The latest of the stars to arrive, he hasn’t moved the needle at all on defense since returning from his extended contract (he had two tackles and no sacks or pressures on Sunday).

“Honestly, a lot of mixed feelings, a lot of mixed emotions, a lot of mixed thoughts,” Reddick told The Post when asked how stunned he was to have joined a team full of stars and talent and to see this happen. “For everyone, this is extremely frustrating. Whatever the answer is, we just have to find it and we have to do it before things get too out of hand.

Memo to Reddick: Things are already out of control, and it’s clearly the beginning of the end for this group of Woody stars.

The beginning of the end for everyone involved. From general manager Joe Douglas, who had almost six years to win and didn’t. To the technical staff. To Rodgers’ experiment gone so wrong. To virtually everyone and everything associated with the Jets.

What a nightmare.
