No sex with Trump voters: US feminists embrace 4B movement after Kamala Harris defeat

Just days after Donald Trump’s recent victory in the 2024 presidential election, thousands of women across the United States have expressed their discontent, citing deep concerns over issues of gender equality and reproductive rights.

In response, some American women have joined the “4B Movement,” a feminist protest strategy that originated in South Korea. The movement involves a commitment to completely abstain from relationships with men – including marriage, childbirth, dating and even sexual relations.

The 4B Movement, which translates to “bihon, bichulsan, biyeonae and bisekseu,” according to CNN, promotes an approach to female empowerment that rejects the influence of a male-dominated society. The movement first emerged in South Korea around 2016 after a woman in Seoul was murdered by a man who claimed he was angered by being ignored by women.

Trump’s victory, which came despite a powerful campaign by Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, renewed concerns among many American women, particularly those who believed his re-election could threaten progress on reproductive rights and social justice.

In the days following the election results, social media saw an increase in posts from American women declaring their support for 4B principles in protest. Google searches for the movement have reportedly increased, indicating growing interest.

Supporters see the movement as a powerful message to men who voted for a candidate accused of misogynistic behavior. Many of Trump’s opponents believe his re-election represents a setback in their fight for gender equality and reproductive rights.

Critics of the movement have also emerged, both online and offline. On social media, some users mocked the idea that men would be affected by women’s choice to distance themselves romantically. “Not a single man loses sleep because you don’t want to sleep with him,” one user joked. Others joked that feminists distancing themselves from men would be good for the gene pool.
