Four things to know about Jalen Hurts’ exit in Cowboys rout

It wasn’t an easy game to grade Jalen Hurts, but there are some things you need to know about his inconsistent performance against the Dallas Cowboys in a 34-6 blowout victory.

First, the Eagles won the game and the quarterback is now 41-19 in his three-plus years as a starter.

“I’ve asked the question before, rhetorically,” he said. “I said when didn’t winning become the main thing? That’s exactly what it’s about, everyone being together, everyone understanding the mission, understanding the vision of what we’re trying to accomplish as a team.

Hurts was mostly referring to the defense and how he ran the line on the bench hitting players’ hands and helmets on that side of the ball. They backed it up after Hurts’ fumble that the Cowboys recovered at the Philly 6-yard line, looking to take a 10-7 lead with a touchdown. That didn’t happen because Jalen Carter made a mammoth stop on a third-down running play that lost two yards, forcing Dallas to settle for a field goal after squandering good field position.

Second, Hurts has no problem owning up to his mistakes. Would it have been better to have a cleaner game? Of course. The quarterback, however, has gone four straight games without a turnover, and this is the first time he has done that. However, mistakes sometimes happen when you handle the ball on every play.

“I don’t have any pride or anything in owning up to my mistakes, so I made a mistake and it hurt the team, but I was grateful (to the defense) for supporting me, the way that she responded and the way she played,” he said. “Just the conversations that we have, and I think it’s something that starts in the middle of the week, not on Sunday.

“We know it takes all of us. Offensively, everyone knows we’re going to continue to pressure and move forward, stay with it and throw punches. That’s exactly how I think we handled the situation.

Third, Hurts is a unique quarterback in that he truly lives for the next play, able to quickly put a bad game behind him and not dwell on it. They say that ability makes a good cornerback a great cornerback. On Sunday, Hurts went from bad to better to good in the same game.

“I thought he did a lot of good things,” head coach Nick Sirianni said. “It obviously didn’t start the way we wanted, but there’s something to be said for guys who can bounce back and play a really good game after things don’t go well at the start.

“We’ll want some of those pieces back. He’ll want some of those pieces back. But it’s a great job of handling adversity, putting your head down and continuing to work.

Finally, Hurts completed 14 of 20 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns with 56 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the victory. That gives him 16 touchdowns to just two turnovers in this five-game winning streak.

Additionally, Hurts became the first quarterback in team history to play in 23 games with at least one passing and rushing history.

About this note. Mine would be a solid B.
