Oscar De La Hoya perfectly sums up Jake Paul’s boxing abilities in 4 words ahead of Mike Tyson fight

Oscar De La Hoya has a bold vision on Jake Paul.

Paul faces boxing legend Mike Tyson in eight two-minute rounds this Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.Texas, and it will be streamed live on Netflix.

It is the culmination of a remarkable rise for the 27-year-old, who made his professional debut only four years ago and has since been involved in some huge fights.

This week’s showdown with Tyson is the biggest of all, however, and it has the boxing world talking, with De La Hoya one of those who had his say.

His assessment of Paul goes back a long way, as he first shared his thoughts on the YouTuber-turned-boxer almost three years ago.

De La Hoya only needed four words to sum up Paul’s boxing abilities while speaking with TMZ Sports, and even back then he was full of praise for Tyson’s next opponent.

“This is the real deal.”

De La Hoya then explained what he saw in “The Problem Child,” and some of it came to fruition.

“With only four or five fights, and the way he takes things seriously. Jake Paul is the real deal and I challenge anyone with any boxing or MMA experience to call him out.

“I’ll tell you one thing, this guy can beat a lot of good champions, and maybe even great champions. It’s not a single match, two or three, he wants to become world champion. You have to fight against the best and he does it well. He’s doing the right thing.

On the fight itself, De La Hoya said Fight Hub TV that he is excited about the contest but is worried about Tyson if he can’t get Paul out early.

“I’m actually looking forward to it. Jake Paul, he’s progressing, he’s becoming a better fighter, this fight here, him being focused and determined and taking on the great Mike Tyson. This takes it to another level.

Tyson, it’s still Tyson, it never changes, he always has the power, the power never leaves you, your reflexes leave you, your speed a little, your conditioning.

If it’s before three, four rounds, I have to go with Tyson by knockout, that one punch knockout, if it goes beyond four rounds, I have to worry about Tyson’s conditioning and where the youth by Jake Paul can take over. I’ve seen Jake Paul’s videos, he looks big, he looks huge. So whatever spray he takes, it works.

Whether Paul will manage to become world champion remains to be seen, but his next fight after Tyson may have already been revealed.
