Jordan Chiles Details ‘Difficult’ Olympic Medal Scandal on Today Show

Jordan Chiles Gives First TV Interview on Bronze Medal Controversy, Ready to Speak My Truth

Jordan Chiles is ready to speak her truth after being stripped of her Olympic bronze medal.

“It’s been really, really hard to understand everything that’s going on,” Chiles, 23, said during an appearance on the Monday, Nov. 11, show. Todayhis first live television interview since Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “I was finally able to feel comfortable talking about what happened.”

Increasingly emotional, Chiles said Hoda Kotb that she has been going through “a difficult period” for several months.

“I’m ready to speak my truth,” she added.

Chiles finished in fifth place after her floor routine at the Paris 2024 Olympics in August. The U.S. team requested an investigation into the difficulty of one of Chiles’ skills, which changed his score and bumped the athlete to third place, awarding him a bronze medal.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) subsequently upheld a separate investigation by the Romanian team, which suggested that Team USA’s initial investigation was made four seconds after the one-minute delay. Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu was finally awarded bronze medal. The Chileans said Monday that they had not spoken.

In September, Chiles’ legal team announced that they appealed before the Swiss Federal Court to annul this appeal. The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) publicly supported the case.

“The support that surrounded me said, ‘OK, I can’t control anything that happens outside, I can only control what my truth is, and I know what the truth is, and I know that we were right in everything we did,” Chiles continued during his speech. Today interview Monday.

“I’ll be able to look back and say, you know what, ‘That was just part of my story, but it’s the truth.’ And that’s why I’m here today, is to speak my truth,” Chiles added.

The Olympian also spoke candidly about the importance of this moment in her life while at the Olympics. Forbes Women’s Power Summit in September.

“The most important thing that was taken away from me was…the recognition of who I was. Not just my sport, but the person I am,” Chiles said. “For me, everything that happened is not about the medal. It depends on my skin color.
