Former NFL coach Jack Del Rio, who served as senior advisor to Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell this season, was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing into a backboard signage and a fence, according to ESPN. Adam Rittenbergbreaking the fence.

Madison police said Del Rio “exhibited signs of impairment.”

“We take matters like this very seriously and continue to gather information,” Wisconsin said in a statement.

Before joining Wisconsin this season, Del Rio spent more than two decades in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints as a strength and conditioning coach (1997-98); the Baltimore Ravens as linebackers coach (1999-01); the Carolina Panthers as defensive coordinator (2002); the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach (2003-11); the Denver Broncos as defensive coordinator (2012-14); then-Oakland Raiders as head coach (2015-17); and then-Washington Football Team as defensive coordinator (2020-23).

He went 93-94 as head coach, leading his teams to three playoff berths but only one playoff victory.

Fickell told reporters ahead of the 2024 campaign, he tapped Del Rio as an advisor to get his “football coaching perspective.”
