Who will coach Florida State’s offensive line and wide receivers for the final two games?

The Florida State Seminoles are shaking up their coaching staff two games from the end of a disastrous 2024 season. Over the weekend, the program made the difficult decision to move on from offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins, wide receivers coach Ron Dugans and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.

The Seminoles have already announced that co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Randy Shannon will serve as defensive coordinator. But, given that head coach Mike Norvell is already the playmaker on offense, who will coach FSU’s offensive line and wide receivers?

On Monday, Norvell revealed his plans for both positions on the team during a well-timed BYE week. According to the head coach, senior offensive analyst Gabe Fertitta will handle offensive line duties while graduate assistant Guy Lemonier Jr. will work with the wide receivers. It appears it will be a by-committee approach, as Norvell also mentioned senior offensive analyst Austin Tucker and director of scouting (offensive) Rick Stockstill when detailing his plans.

“We’re going to work collectively as a team in that regard. Obviously, with Gabe (Fertitta), he kind of took on that role there earlier in the season in Alex’s absence, so he’ll continue to be a little bit the key and point there on the O-line and then at the receiver, Guy (Lemonier) will kind of take care of things on a day-to-day basis,” Norvell said. “He’s worked with this group, but also with Austin Tucker. We obviously have a great coach in Coach Stockstill who will be able to help where we have a few coaches. He’ll be there and involved and helping the majority positions, but I also gained excellent experience there.

“I have a lot of confidence in the coaching staff that we have and what we’re going to be able to do over the next few weeks,” Norvell continued. “Everyone’s responsibilities, it’s kind of a heightened sense of importance because there might be a little more crossover for the guys and making sure you’re in contact with the players, making sure we let’s meet them where they are, and then obviously all the necessary things so that we can go out there and be at our best in the next two games.”

Fertitta served as FSU’s offensive line coach for the first three games of the season, with Atkins facing an NCAA-mandated suspension. He is in his third year with the program and spends most of his time coaching the offensive line with Atkins. Fertitta worked at Louisville before being hired by the Seminoles and has a successful background as a high school coach.

Lemonier Jr. joined Florida State in 2021 and is in his fourth year with the Seminoles. He worked under Dugans as a graduate assistant during this period. Lemonier Jr. began his coaching career at Howard in 2018.

Tucker has been in Tallahassee for all five of Norvell’s seasons. He played several positions during his tenure at FSU, including quarterback and running back. Tucker previously worked at North Alabama.

Stockstill is a member of the FSU Hall of Fame and longtime head coach at Middle Tennessee State. He returned to his alma mater earlier this year as director of offensive scouting, a role that opened up after John Garrett became Duke’s general manager. Stockstill has a wealth of experience and has spent a lot of time with the quarterbacks this year.
