STV Children’s Appeal raises over £2.4 million to support Scottish families

STV’s Children’s Appeal has raised more than £2.4 million this year to support families in Scotland affected by poverty.

The program was presented by host Lorraine Kelly, alongside STV’s Laura Boyd, and broadcast from Glasgow Kelvin College’s Springburn campus, with their film studies students participating.

The college is supported by the Appeal to run intergenerational “community hubs” which benefit both children and parents.

The show concluded a week of fundraising on STV, during which many famous faces, including Brian Cox, Marli Sui and Alan Cumming, appeared on the channel to support its charity campaign.

Jean Johansson also presented an inspiring documentary about the importance of positive role models in young people’s lives, while S1 pupils from St Andrews RC Secondary School in Glasgow’s East End took over as announcers of the STV channel, presenting programs on air throughout the week.

Elsewhere, STV presenters Sean Batty and Laura Boyd reunited for another charity challenge this year.

They were on a mission to reach as many Scottish landmarks as possible in 48 hours and complete tasks from local schools and businesses to raise funds along the way.

On Friday’s Appeal, viewers saw Sean and Laura travel the length and breadth of the country, visiting everywhere from Loch Ness to Edinburgh Castle.

Every penny donated by the public will be used to help the children and families who need it most in Scotland.

Administration costs are covered by STV and a portion of the Wood Foundation’s donation to the Appeal. The Wood Foundation has been a partner of the Appeal since 2013, donating over £1 million to date.

The Scottish Government has supported the STV Children’s Appeal since its inception in 2011, providing up to £1 million in matching funding per year.

Lorraine Kelly said: “I was delighted to celebrate another year of fundraising for STV’s Children’s Appeal, a charity very close to my heart.

“Meeting all the lovely people at Glasgow Kelvin College and getting a sense of the community spirit of Springburn really embodies for me the essence of the calling – it’s all about coming together to support each other in difficult times .

“And the people of Scotland have never let us down!” What an incredible amount has been raised to help those most in need across the country – thank you very much.

Paul Reynolds, Chairman of STV Children’s Appeal, said: “STV Children’s Appeal has been helping to transform lives in Scotland since 2011, but we never take the support of our viewers, community fundraisers, corporate partners and supporters for granted. colleagues from STV.

“This year’s total is absolutely fantastic and reflects the unwavering generosity of the Scottish people, for which we are truly grateful.

“It was a pleasure to celebrate the efforts of so many wonderful fundraisers and charities on Friday’s show. Thank you to everyone who donated, raised funds or got involved with the appeal in any form throughout the year.

Sir Ian Wood KT GBE, chairman of the Wood Foundation and board member of the STV Children’s Appeal, said: “I believe we all have a responsibility to help each other. Through our investments, The Wood Foundation helps young people make a real difference in their communities, empowering them to become the next generation of successful and contributing citizens.

“We are proud of our partnership with STV Children’s Appeal as we continue to invest in efforts to tackle the root causes and immediate impacts of child poverty.

“Over the years, the Appeal has championed innovation by challenging public perceptions and creating opportunities for young people that will improve their long-term life chances. »
