Trump transition live updates: Lee Zeldin chosen to lead EPA

President-elect Donald Trump tapped former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

“Lee, with a very strong legal background, has been a true fighter for the America First policy,” Trump said in a statement. “He will ensure that fair and timely deregulatory decisions are made in ways that unleash the power of American businesses, while maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet. It will set new standards for environmental review and maintenance that will enable the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured manner.

Zeldin, who also ran for governor of New York against Andrew Cuomo in 2022, confirmed he was offered the job via a post on X.

“It is an honor to join President Trump’s Cabinet as EPA Administrator,” he wrote. “We will restore America’s energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring jobs back to the United States, and make the United States the world leader in AI. We will do this while protecting access to air pure and watery.”
