Lookalike Contest Trend: Here’s Why Everyone’s Obsessed With Them Right Now

Do you look like (insert male celebrity here)? Could you use $50? A lookalike contest might be in your future.

After a competition organized by YouTuber to find the man from New York who most resembled Timothée Chalamet went viral on social media (leading to a huge event that Timmy himself attended), copycats have been popping up all over the world. From a Paul Mescal lookalike competition in Dublin at a Dev Patel lookalike contest in San Francisco, it’s never been a better time to be someone who (kinda, kinda) looks like a hot, famous guy.

Since then, popular movements to crown equally exact look-alikes have swept the nation and the world.

Just last week there was a Harry Styles lookalike competition in London…

Also, if you’re wondering, there is no big entity in charge of these contests, and there is no clear way to determine a winner outside of, it seems, cheers and thirst of the gathered crowd.

So this is truly a democratic popular election that is essentially pure anarchy. This… maybe what we need right now?

What does the Internet think?

Of course, everyone is obsessed.
