An abandoned apartment catches fire this weekend. Shreveport Fire Department Reports

Another abandoned apartment complex caught fire in Shreveport.

The Oak Meadows Apartments, in the 1900 block of Centenary Boulevard, caught fire over the weekend, forcing more than 30 firefighters to work to bring the blaze under control.

The Shreveport Fire Department received reports of flames and smoke coming from a ground floor apartment at the Oak Meadows Apartments around 6 a.m. on November 10.

When firefighters arrived, they purged the air from the apartment using a chainsaw from the roof. After more than 15 minutes, the fire was brought under control and no injuries were reported.

As the winter months approach and cooler temperatures arrive, firefighters are responding to an increasing number of fires, according to firefighters.

“The community is urged to demonstrate situational awareness when dealing with abandoned and adjudicated properties in their neighborhoods,” the SFD said in the release. “If you see any suspicious activity, report it to authorities immediately. By securing these properties and reporting unauthorized access, you can potentially help prevent these fires and keep the community safe.”
