Red Sox blanked as MLB awards finalists revealed

The Baseball Writers Association of America finalists were announced Monday and the Red Sox was not taken into account in the equation.

Three finalists for AL MVP, AL Cy Young Award, AL Rookie of the Year and AL Manager were revealed, and the Sox were shut out.

The AL MVP finalists were Aaron Judge and Juan Soto of the New York Yankees and Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals. Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran (8.7) finished fourth in WAR among position players in the American League, but failed to qualify.

For the AL Manager of the Year award, Cleveland’s Stephen Vogt, Detroit’s AJ Hinch and Kansas City’s Matt Quataro were chosen – each from the AL Central.

In the AL Rookie of the Year voting, two members of the Yankees – pitcher Luis Gil and catcher Austin Wells – were joined by Baltimore’s Colton Cowser. Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu, who won a Gold Glove last week, was considered a potential finalist, but finished out of the running.

Finally, for the AL Cy Young Award, Detroit’s Tarik Skubal, Kansas City’s Set Lugo and Cleveland closer Emmanuel Classe. The last reliever to win a Cy Young Award was Eric Gagne of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2003.

Winners will be announced starting Monday, November 18.
