Million dollar winning lottery ticket sold at Baldwin Food Mart last week

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A lucky winner of a local grocery store’s lottery won a $1 million scratch-off ticket.

The ticket was sold at the Baldwin Food Mart, 1801 Baldwin Dr.

According to the Texas Lottery website, the ticket sold in Corpus Christi was one of 15 scratch-off tickets containing a $1 million prize. Out of all the tickets, only two were sold in Texas and the Corpus Christi ticket was 9th in the list.

“I thought I was going to get a little bonus or something,” June Garcia joked.

According to the Texas Lottery Commission, the lottery winner has chosen to remain anonymous.

“I heard about it in the morning, as soon as my friend came in the morning, he was like, ‘Hey, someone won $1 million!'” Garcia said. “I remembered that man, it’s his normal routine (to buy a scratch ticket. I told him: “Oh, are you riding high today?!”

When asked by KRIS 6 News if this was a winning store, Garcia agreed, saying, “You have to touch the counter first, then get your ticket!”

This particular store has seen its share of lottery winners, but none, according to owner Ram Thakor, of this size.

“We have some lotto winners here, we had $25,000 last year and some small winners, like $1,000, $2,000, but this one was a big winner,” Thakor said.

So if you’re looking for a sign on where to buy your next lottery ticket, stop by Baldwin Food Mart! The “million dollar store” is open from 7 a.m. to midnight.
