“Men Wear Pink” Named Best Team for Breast Cancer Fundraising Efforts

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraiser is officially over, and Team KRIS 6 was part of Men Wear Pink and exceeded our goal, all thanks to viewers like you!

There are more than 200 teams in the Coastal Bend. The Real Men Wear Pink team was the first to raise money, bringing in more than $48,000 for the American Cancer Society.

“The American Cancer Society gets these funds, and they’re primarily for research. So they study new treatments for breast cancer and also cover travel expenses for people who can’t afford their travel, and I think “That’s something we’re seeing here in the Coastal Bend,” said Efrain Franco Jr, team leader of Men Wear Pink.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of regular checkups for both men and women so that cancer can be detected early and increase the chances of beating this terrible disease. This awareness culminated with the “Making Strides against Breast Cancer” run along the downtown Corpus Christi bay, which saw thousands of participants running for a cure.

Authorities say you are only one degree of separation from someone who has been affected by breast cancer. That’s why many residents, like Dennis Rinaldi, owner of Dash Construction, decided to join the fight.

“Two of my aunts are survivors, so I was lucky they both made it out, and my mom didn’t have to deal with it. I’m lucky I didn’t I haven’t lost anyone, but I’ve had people who have been there.”

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who donated this year, but the battle continues throughout the year. If you would like more information on what you can do to help the American Cancer Society of the Coastal Bend, you can click here.
