Arcane creators admit rumors about show’s 5 seasons were ‘crazy’

The creators of Arcane have finally shut down the five-season rumors surrounding the animated series, stating that they are just “nonsense.”

Arcana the second and final season is upon us, with the the first three episodes now released on Netflix and the other six are scheduled to release during the remainder of November 2024.

Before the launch of the final season, it was revealed that the series cost a staggering $250 million to create, making it by far the most expensive animated series of all time.

A report of Variety dated November 6, 2024, claimed that Riot had “originally planned a five-season arc” but decided to end the series after season two due to its production cost.

However, Arcane co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee put that hearsay aside once and for all in an interview with TechRadar and confirmed that the two-season arc was planned “all along.”

Additionally, Linke even admitted that the rumor started because of a prank played on him during the creation of the series.

Arcane season 2 Caitlyn

The second season of Arcane will be the final outing of the award-winning series.

When the initial pilot and first episodes were created, Linkle explained that they still hadn’t received the green light to create an entire season. As such, Nicolo Laurent, the former CEO of Riot Games, decided to prank Linkle with some bad news.

“Nicolo thought it would be really funny to pull me into a room and say, ‘Hey, I know you haven’t had the green light yet, and I decided not to give it to you.’ I sat there looking pretty upset before he added, ‘Because I’m giving you the green light for five seasons!’

Yee doubled down on the idea that Vi and Jinx’s story would always conclude in two seasons, revealing that “the story that ends with this season is the one that we mapped out from the start with the rest of the team” .

The co-creator explained, “I think we imagined ways to go beyond that, but one more season was the step we always wanted to take.”

Linke then added: “To make a long story short, five seasons was just nonsense on our part.”

Arcane Season 2 Part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on November 16 and the third and final part will be released on November 23.
