Clues and answer for Tuesday, November 12

Hi! It’s a day that ends in “y”, so there is a new series of Word to be checked. If you need a helping hand with the latest game, here’s our daily Word guide with some tips and the answer to Tuesday’s riddle (#1,242).

Maybe you are a Word newcomer and you don’t really know how to play. We are also here to help you.

Word is a deceptively simple daily word game that first saw the light of day in 2021. The gist is that there is one five-letter word to be deduced each day by process of elimination. Daily speech is the same for everyone.

Word exploded in popularity in late 2021 after creator Josh Wardle made it easy for players to share an emoji-based grid with their friends and followers that detailed how they were doing each day. The success of the game stimulated dozens of clones across a multitude of categories and formats.

The New York Times bought Word early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The post states that players played collectively Word 4.8 billion times in 2023. It is therefore not surprising that Word is one of the best online games and puzzles that you can play daily.

To start playing WordAll you need to do is enter a five-letter word. The game will tell you how close you are to the secret word of the day by highlighting the letters that are in the correct position in green. Letters that appear in the word but are not in the correct place will be highlighted in yellow. If you guess letters that are not in the secret word, the game will gray them out on the virtual keyboard.

You’ll only have six guesses to find each day’s word, although you can always use shaded letters to help narrow things down. It is also worth remembering that letters can appear several times in the secret word.

Word is free to play on the New York Timess website and applications, as well as on Meta Quest Helmets. The game refreshes at midnight local time. If you sign in to a New York Times account, you can track your statsincluding the all-important winning streak.

If you have a New York Times subscription which includes full access to the publication’s games, you don’t have to stop after just one round of Word. You will have access to an archive more than 1,000 previous ones Word games. So if you are a newcomer, you can go back and catch up on previous editions.

In addition, paying New York Times Games members have access to a tool called the Wordlebot. This can tell you how you performed in each day’s match.
