If you started receiving SSDI before May 1997, you will usually receive your payment on the third day of each month. Note that this is not always the case, such as when the third day falls on a weekend or public holiday. Last March was such a month, and SSDI recipients received their payments two days early, on the first day of the month.

If you started receiving SSDI after May 1997, your payment date is determined by the day of the month you were born. Payments are usually made on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month. The Wednesday you receive your check breaks down like this:

Will the 2025 COLA affect my payment?

Probably, but it depends. The COLA for 2025 will introduce a 2.5% increase in monthly benefit checks, but the exact amount will depend on several factors. Any monthly income, the length of time you receive benefits, and the type of benefits you receive may result in a different payment increase. Recipients will receive their COLA notice sometime in December with specific details about their case. A 2.5% COLA will add about $48 to the average benefit check when it arrives in January 2025.
