Lifelong Dem, who voted for Trump, clashes with CBS reporter over state of Biden’s economy

A Democratic voter in Pennsylvania insisted that “nobody’s salaries went up” after CBS reporter Scott Pelley questioned his vote for President-elect Donald Trump.

After Trump’s decisive victory and the Republican Party’s massive post-election gains, “60 Minutes” traveled to the swing state to educate ordinary Americans about how Democrats “misread the people.”

One voter, restaurant owner Roz Werkheiser, said rising food prices were a major problem.

“Prices have gone up, obviously because of the cost of food. And for a family of four or five, I have them come in and say, ‘Oh my God, I spent $100 with tip on the breakfast- lunch? It’s crazy, and it is,” Werkheiser told CBS reporter Scott Pelley.

She added: “My mother always said, ‘I have to vote Democratic. You know, it’s for the poor.'”

“Did you grow up in a Democratic family?” Pelley asked.

“Yes,” Werkheiser replied.

“But you just voted for Donald Trump,” Pelley said.

Werkheiser replied again: “Yes.”

The economy was seen as one of voters’ top concerns heading into the election, but Pelley argued with Werkheiser that it had actually improved.

“Inflation is down by more than half, interest rates are going down, mortgage rates are going down, wages are going up. Don’t you feel that way?” » asked Pelley.

“I don’t feel it,” Werkheiser said. “No, I don’t feel it. I don’t feel it at all. Everyone I talk to, nobody’s salaries have gone up. But we’ve had four years like this. I mean, four years. Gasoline was very high Yes, it’s just gone down now, but what… over the last four… three and a half years, it was up.”

Even though inflation has declined from its near-record levels of 2022, prices have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. According to a FOX Business Analysis in September, food prices increased about 22.8%, energy prices increased about 42.4%, and new vehicle prices increased 19.5% under the Biden administration by compared to Trump’s first term.

THE Fox News 2024 Voter Analysis found that the economy was the second most important issue among Trump voters, behind immigration. Overall, the economy ranked as the most important issue among voters as a whole, with a 39% majority.

A majority of Trump voters also thought the economy was “not so good” or “bad.”
