6 FIRST ALERT FORECAST – Gusty winds pick up today, rain arrives tonight

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Tuesday starts off on a cool note with temperatures in the low 30s and a breeze feeling like it will reach the upper 20s.

This wind becomes stronger as the day progresses with southeasterly gusts up to 30 miles per hour in the afternoon.

But like yesterday, sunshine will dominate with highs in the mid-50s.

After a dry day, the risk of rain will be felt as midnight approaches.

The best chance of showers and a few thunderstorms is between 2 a.m. and noon Wednesday.

No severe weather is expected.

Rainfall totals will be highest near and east of the Missouri River, with a half-inch to an inch possible there; meanwhile, about a quarter of an inch is expected further west.

The rest of the week sees warming temperatures and we stay in the upper 50s to mid 60s for highs through the weekend.

Next week we will see a strong system impacting the Upper Midwest.

Many details will be worked out as we get closer to its arrival but the potential for rain for the first half of next week (and perhaps a few flakes) exists with this system.
