Electricity Minister Kgosientso Ramokgopa reports that municipal debt to Eskom has increased by R12 billion in the last three months, to a staggering total of more than R90 billion.

The City of Johannesburg is one of several municipalities that owe Eskom billions of rands in unpaid electricity bills.

Eskom has issued a warning to Johannesburg, threatening to schedule power cuts if the city fails to settle its multi-billion rand debt.
