Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC has recalled more than 79,000 pounds of Costco Kirkland Signature Butter last month, as the packaging may not contain a milk allergen disclaimer.

The recalled 46,800 pounds of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter and 32,400 pounds of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter “list cream, but may be missing the Contains Milk statement,” according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The distribution of approximately 2,100 cases of butter took place Texasthe agency said.

For Kirkland Signature Sweet and Savory Cream Butter, the expiration dates were February 23, 2025 for one of the lots and March 29, 2025 for the other, according to the FDA. Meanwhile, the four batches of unsalted butter had expiration dates of February 22, February 23, March 22 and March 23.

Each recalled product contained four 4-ounce sticks.

According to the FDA, companies must label food products containing milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame.

The recalls for potentially not having an advisory on milk, an ingredient that some social media users say should be common sense for consumers, came about a month before the FDA labeled them “Class II.” , a classification that the FDA says indicates a product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or when the likelihood of serious adverse health consequences is low.”

The agency noted that recalls of Costco Kirkland Signature Butter by Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest were voluntary and did not involve a press release.

Costco has been selling products under its popular private label since the mid-1990s.

In its latest annual report, the warehouse retailer said Kirkland Signature items are “offered at generally lower prices than national brands and help reduce costs, differentiate our merchandise offerings and generally generate higher margins.”

Costco typically carries a selection of about 4,000 items, including Kirkland Signature products and items from other brands, in its 891 warehouses.
