CNN fares slightly better. In the days following the election, the news channel’s total daily audience fell to 611,000, including 159,000 in the demo. This represents a 36% drop from the network’s average audience in the month of October (953,000 viewers) as well as a 26% drop from its 2024 average (830,000 viewers).

But the right Fox News did not share these audience problems. After seeing an astonishing spectacle 10.3 million total viewers During its election night coverage, the channel attracted an average of 4.375 million viewers from last Wednesday to Friday. This represents a 34% increase from its October audience (3.27 million viewers) as well as a 58% increase from its annual average (2.775 million viewers). All of these numbers are reported as Nielsen numbers.

Unsurprisingly, the 2024 election is one of the most-watched television events of the year. According to Nielsen, approximately 42.3 million viewers watched the US presidential election on 18 television networks. Specifically, the company monitored the hearing from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET last Tuesday. But compared to previous elections, there was a 25% audience drop. The 2020 election attracted 56.9 million prime-time viewers.
