Kate Middleton has been slowly increasing her public appearances since finishing her preventative chemotherapy treatment, but apparently she’s taking things at her own pace and isn’t about to rush into anything.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith recounts People that “You can’t say she’s back…but she’s coming back.” She does it in her own way, at her own pace and with caution.

Kate turned up at Remembrance Sunday this weekend, appearing on the balcony above the Cenotaph war memorial with Sophie Wessex. The two were spotted discussing Prince William’s new beard, which a lip reader claims Kate somewhat thirstily described as “vibrant“.

“I’m sure she missed participating and she seemed happy to do it,” Bedell Smith said. “I don’t think she wanted to disappoint people, and even though they said weeks ago that she would like to be there, it wasn’t until Friday that they confirmed it. She very managed public expectations well.”

Kate announced the end of her preventive chemotherapy treatment in September, saying: “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my goal. Although I have completed chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am, however, looking forward to returning to work and undertaking some other public engagements in the coming months when I am able.

As for Kate’s next public appearance, Bedell Smith says she will likely be at her annual Christmas carol concert, which will take place at Westminster Abbey in December.
